Philosophy in practice

Joanna believes in an integrative approach to healing and change. In her coaching practice, she incorporates Somatic Experiencing © practices with the foundations of Jungian- depth psychology.

Somatic Experiencing © combines deep mindfulness practices, self-attunement, tracking and exploratory orienting, and tools of titration and pendulation to support optimal vagus nerve functioning and autonomic nervous system regulation. Old patterns of fight, flight, freeze, and fawn don’t have to be our only choices when experiencing a sense of threat, feeling triggered. Somatic practices and the transpersonal elements of Jungian-oriented depth psychology are the main tools I use to support my coaching clients.

Please note that Joanna Walling is a Somatic Experiencing © Practitioner, SEP, working in the capacity as a somatic coach and cannot provide psychotherapy services to treat any mental health conditions or DSM diagnoses.

Jungian depth psychology

Depth psychological perspectives examine the role of unconscious phenomena within the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of an individual. We approach the unconscious through dreams, images, story telling, personal and collective mythology, the dynamics of shadow and persona, inner masculine/feminine/gender fluid parts, cultural and personal complexes, and the transpersonal connection with the numinous.
